Stop Rushing the Journey: A 3-Minute Practice for Grounding Yourself
Share
As we all begin our day, it’s imperative that we cultivate a sense of groundedness. Grounding yourself can help regulate your nervous system. So, instead of going to work and trying to rush time so we can get to where we want to be, encourage yourself to stop rushing time or the journey you have to take. You’ll still be able to achieve and do everything you need to.
When you’re rushing time at work, you’re actually rushing yourself. Your nervous system won’t be able to fully regulate when you’re carrying that mentality or energy. Your body is experiencing the present moment while your mind is already somewhere else. Instead of spending your day wishing you were at your next destination, give yourself permission to be where you are.
You can still accomplish everything you need to accomplish without mentally racing toward the finish line.
If you’re at work wishing you were home, take a moment to acknowledge that feeling without allowing it to consume your entire experience. If you’re wishing you were further along in life, remind yourself that you are still becoming. And if you’re longing for a different version of yourself, begin embodying that version now.
Ask yourself:
How would I feel if I was already where I wanted to be?
Maybe you would feel peaceful. Confident. Free. Fulfilled. Grounded.
Allow yourself to experience that emotion now. You don’t have to wait until you reach the destination to embody the energy of the person you’re becoming. Grounding doesn’t have to be complicated.
You don’t need a yoga mat, an elaborate morning routine, or anything outside of yourself to create a moment of peace. Sometimes, all you need is a few intentional minutes.
Take three minutes today to pause.
Breathe slowly.
Notice what you’re feeling.
Notice where your mind is.
Notice whether you’re mentally somewhere other than where your body is.
Then, gently bring yourself back.
You might need to say to yourself:
“I don't have to rush this moment. I am allowed to be here.”
Let yourself feel whatever comes up. You don't have to force yourself into positivity or immediately change an emotion. Simply become aware of it. From that awareness, you can begin to shift, release, and transmute what no longer needs to be carried.
The goal isn't to make time move faster. The goal is to stop abandoning yourself while you're waiting for time to pass.
Wherever you are today, be there.
Your life is not only waiting for you at the next destination. It's happening right here, too. I pray for ease in all of our journey's.
with love,
